ART DECO

1920's Art Deco!

A trend that was hot in the 1920's and 80's is now hot this year 2013!
Especially the new movie that came out this summer, The Great Gatsby, has really brought the trend back to life. Here are a few things that are Art Deco and are my favorite...
LINE, COLOR, SHAPE, PATTERN.....
A lot of buildings built back in the 20's used a lot of long lines, rectangles and triangles in their design.
The popular pattern today with interior and fashion design is with the chevron print. In the early 20's, they wore headbands and dresses with the chevron print with sequin's. Today, we use it mainly only using a solid color on a solid back ground with a duck fabric.

Color used are neutrals with a lot of beiges, grays and crèmes'. Emerald green that is the hot color for 2013 was also big in the 20's.  The luxury look uses black outlined with gold on chair frames, pictures, vases and light fixtures.

Egyptian influenced their whole design. The repetitive geometric patterns are in the wall paper, rugs and art. As you know, Egyptian colors were mainly black and gold too.
